Mr Content – OOTD Channeling Spring

Despite the -5 temperature this morning Mr. Content was channeling spring today.

Tie and pocket square both Hermes. Both are actually gifts from me, I am a sucker for all things Hermes, Silk and anything with what I call ‘Dutch Orange’ in it. The pocket square was for our first Valentines together.

Style Content – Easter OOTD Glimpse

Image

I can’t seem to stop wearing my new faded skinny maternity jeans from H&M (see previous post), i added open toed kitten heels and a black blazer for Easter Sunday dinner with the Content family. We forgot to take a full length photo – but I thought I’d post this anyways. Getting regular pedicures while in the second half of my pregnancy has been one of the easies/quickest/cheapest pick-me-ups. It’s hard to feel yucky when you look down on fun toes! (I may have to lean forward a little more than usual to see my toes but i can still see them!) Hope everyone had a great Easter!

Style Content – OOTD Shades of Grey

OOTD shades of grey

New grey washed out jeans (maternity) from H&M ($40!), oversized black blouse  by hanni y that is a staple in my closet (I’ve had it for over a year). Oversized fuzzy grey w/ skulls scarf and of course my trusty black leather jacket both from Zara. Boots from  Fiorentini & Baker.

All that happened here was a new pair of inexpensive maternity jeans from H&M giving new life to some staples in my wardrobe. FYI I’m at 27 weeks here. We didn’t take a side profile pic but trust me there’s a large bump there. That’s why i had the big fuzzy scarf and gloves on, because there’s no way my jacket zips up.

Home Content – DIY Antique Sideboard Update

I sort of have expensive taste. That’s not really a secret. But right now I’m working on a budget and I’ve got a long list of ‘wants’ for the house regarding decor. My husband has a long (more expensive) list of ‘needs’ for the house (air conditioning, new windows, etc.) So I’m trying to get creative wherever possible to save a few bucks and still get the outcome I’m looking for.

I LOVE setting a gorgeous table, so when it was time to do a registry for our wedding last year I didn’t hesitate to pick out China knowing I’d put it to good use eventually. Until this weekend it’s all been sitting in the boxes it originally arrived in, just waiting for a proper home. I was looking at a full fledged China Cabinet but to get the size I need to look appropriate in our space it would have had to be custom made running us upwards of around $4000. Not really where I wanted to spend that kind of money right now. So I hit up Kijiji and got my craft on. I opted for something a little more ornate, knowing with the right paint and new knobs it would balance out some of our more modern/industrial furnishings. The beauty of antiques is that they were made so well! This sideboard is as sturdy as they come.

Baby Content – The Dangers of Bumper Pads

As gorgeous as they are, are you aware of the potential dangers of bumper pads? They are used purely for aesthetic reasons and the Government of Canada warns strongly against their use citing that they could be a contributing factor in SIDS.

Image

The official Health Canada statement is available here, note that it’s dated 2005 – so why aren’t more new moms & moms-to-be in the know? And why are they still available for purchase in Canada?

What are your thoughts? Did you use bumper pads?

Another Beautiful Yoga Morning

We welcomed in Spring today with Toronto Yoga Mamas (even though it felt like anything but Spring outside!). These camo Wunder Unders are still one of my all time faves and they spark a conversation every time I wear them.Image

There’s new art up in the Gallery where Toronto Yoga Mamas practices out of. I love yoga-ing amongst art.

Baby Content – 5 Diaper Bags for The Stylish Mom

The truth of it is the diaper bag is about to become your purse for the next couple of years, so why settle for something that looks like a diaper bag, as opposed to something that looks like a cool bag? Here’s our top picks;

5. Ju Ju Be’s Better Be Toki Doki edition

This is just soooo fun! This is for the fun loving mom who loves something a little more quirky and colourful. Toki Doki is renowned for their fun and whimsical prints and what a better collab than with Ju Ju Be on diaper bags? This is just one style of a few different options in both styles and colours. Available from Snugglebugs.ca for $149.99.

4. Skip Hop Duo Deluxe Adler in Nixon Black

Skip Hop + Jonathan Adler designs = Awesomeness. Jonathan Adler is a master of geometric prints and bold colours, and his collab with Skip Hop is making for some mommy-must-haves that everyone can get behind. Available at snugglebugs.ca for $99.99

3. lululemon athletica’s Vino & Vinyasa bag

Ok it’s not actually designed to be a diaper bag but it’s loaded with handy pockets for all the gear you would need for the gym, and whether it’s a baby bottle or a water bottle going in the pockets – who cares?  Also they always have some sort of wet/dry pocket – brilliant for separating dirty/wet baby items from the clean. I have given numerous lululemon bags to expectant moms over the last number of years and they have all been very well received. This particular style is one of my faves and from what I understand it’s here to stay for a few months, so expect different options (colours/materials) to arrive with Summer. Order online or pick up at most lululemon stores for $138.00

2. Tory Burch’s Stacked T Billy Baby Bag

Love this bag for looking like just a great bag and not screaming “I’m a diaper bag!”. 7 Exterior pockets and 3 Interior plus a change pad – the function is there to match the fashion. Available at ShopBop.com for $399.58.

1. Marc by Marc Jacobs’ Preppy Nylon Eliz-A-Baby

This is the bag that captured our hearts way back before it was reasonable to be buying a diaper bag. Again we love it for not looking like a diaper bag! Sleek and stylish, available in a variety of colours at both Marc Jacobs and Shopbop.com for around $370.

Baby Content – Sleeping solutions

Cribs are one thing, but for the first few months Baby Content will be sleeping in our room which is rather limited in size. So what to do for those first few months?

Originally i was thinking I’d just get a stroller that comes with a bassinet that I could just plot onto a stand in our bedroom but I ended up deciding on a stroller that doesn’t have that option.

So here’s where I’m at; I’ve picked out two options – one is more on the inexpensive and functional side, and the other is gorgeous and still functional but maybe not as versatile.

First up – Summer Infant’s By Your Side Sleeper. It’s compact, travels well (convenient for the trip to the East Coast we’ve got booked for next September), has the mesh sides which aids in SIDS prevention (allows air movement so the baby essentially does not suffocate in it’s own CO2 while sleeping). It appears to be designed to be on the same bed as you, or on the floor or a counter of some sort – this is one of the major downfalls because our bed is quite high and I don’t have anything to place the sleeper on to keep him/her closer to my eye level. And you can’t really beat the price, $59.99.

Next up is Restoration Hardware Baby & Child’s Heirloom Wicker Bassinet. what can I say about this that isn’t already obvious? It’s. Just. So. Beautiful. *Le Sigh* It comes with a stand that has a convenient shelf underneath for all the baby things you need to keep handy for the middle of the night feedings and diaper changes. I can park it right beside my bed and have Baby at eye level for quick and easy supervision. And I can remove the basket to use in another room if we decide to take a nap in the family room together, or i want to hop in the shower really quickly and keep an eye on the wee one. It won’t travel well – not to the East Coast anyways, but that’s only a week out of the entire year. And it’s such a beautiful piece of furniture that would not be obtrusive in our own bedroom. Eventually I can use it to put some toys in, in the baby’s room once we’ve moved on to a crib. A little more pricey at $299 usd, but if you compare to what Pottery Barn Kids has to offer – not outrageous.
