Spring is here today! I don’t know for how long but it’s here today! And although it’s still a bit cool out I just had to embrace the season with my outfit today. I opted for absolutely no maternity items today – this is proving more and more difficult as time goes on, so this is me squeezing my belly into these Zara jeans one more (last?) time (seriously it’s starting to get uncomfortable).
Yes I keep wearing the same clothes over and over, that’s what you do when you are 7 months pregnant! It’s too expensive to keep buying new items. I did buy this new t-shirt from Jcrew and am loving it. I went for a size large, even though i can still fit into a size Medium, thinking that it would easier accommodate the bump in these last 10 (or so) weeks.
Leather Jacket – Zara, hoodie – Wings & Horns (husbands), V-neck tee – J Crew, jeans – Zara (same washed out stretchy jeans I bought months ago). I paired this with my good ‘ol black Toms. I was going to go with my Tory Burch flats but had too much running around to do and thought the slipper like shoe was probably my best bet.
Layers Layer Layers and Comfort. That’s my advice (and motto) for today.
A great sport coat can go a long way. Today Mr. Content paired his new Navy Tweed jacket with a bold purple check shirt, a clean pocket square, dark denim cuffed over a strong loafer (not as high as in the picture, i tugged them up to show you the socks), and he’s never without a bold sock. The lesson here: Casual Friday in denim does not have to be sloppy!
Detail shot of the socks and shoes…
Sport coat is from a new favourite spot of Mr. Content’s – Ted’s Style Shop. They have one of the best hand-picked selections in town and will tailor everything to fit like a glove (if it doesn’t already – most brand are from Europe and have a tailored fit right off the rack). Shirt is Tom Ford, socks, pocket square & shoes are all from Harry Rosen.
Why are men so afraid of colour? I assure you that executive or not, no matter what industry you work in, you don’t have to be afraid of colour! I highly encourage having a ‘signature’ colour, it makes wardrobe building so much easier and eventually makes outfit creativity so much easier.
And of course, the details;
By now you’ve noticed Mr Content’s passion for purple, it’s a great colour to work with all your basics – Navy, Greys, Black, Brown, etc. When you have a variety of accessories that have your ‘signature colour’ mixed in, or in varieties of that particular colour it really makes wardrobe assembly easy in the mornings, and you always look polished.
It’s hard to get inspired with clothes these days with Spring only coming at us in short teasers, but I’m trying! I refuse to buy anything new until the weather turns and i can start getting some spring/summer items. I’m still doing prenatal yoga three times a week, swimming once a week, and in the last legs of getting the house ‘ready’. I’m dying to have my weekends back – as in no painting, no furniture assembly, no reason for a 7:30am alarm on a Saturday morning! I want some quality time with my husband. We live in the same house, sleep in the same bed, spend all weekend together working on the house – and I miss him! It’s just not the same as having ‘us time’. y’know? And the amount of weekends we have left where it’s just the two of us are decreasing rapidly, so I really want to make the most of it.
Whoa tangent, back on track; Yoga/Swimming/house etc = busy me who needs outfits that can take me through all the day time errands that need doing and are still comfortable. The bump is more of a mountain these days (11ish weeks left to go) and only getting bigger, this makes for some very uncomfortable waistbands in some of my regular go-to items. This week i rediscovered my harem pants – i know they are a hit or miss style with most folks but for this on-the-go-pregnant-yogi they were a key item this week. These exact ones were from the lululemon lab, so they were made in luxtreme which is a very soft flowy fabric and felt so comfortable around the bump.
So this was me on Tuesday evening, heading off to Hypnobirthing with the Mister. I added one of my basic white maternity tshirts (from Thyme Maternity – great basics!), a scarf from lululemon (doubles as a shawl or a blanket in savasana), my husband’s sweatshirt and my good ‘ol denim jacket (levi’s). Comfort to the max.
The next morning, for yoga – same pants but i added one of those extra long cool racerbacks I’ve told you about before.
I had to give you a profile shot so you can see the bump is growing! (this is me at 28.5 weeks). So find your one piece that gives you your mojo and work it as many ways as possible, that’s my advice this week.
Despite the -5 temperature this morning Mr. Content was channeling spring today.
Tie and pocket square both Hermes. Both are actually gifts from me, I am a sucker for all things Hermes, Silk and anything with what I call ‘Dutch Orange’ in it. The pocket square was for our first Valentines together.
I can’t seem to stop wearing my new faded skinny maternity jeans from H&M (see previous post), i added open toed kitten heels and a black blazer for Easter Sunday dinner with the Content family. We forgot to take a full length photo – but I thought I’d post this anyways. Getting regular pedicures while in the second half of my pregnancy has been one of the easies/quickest/cheapest pick-me-ups. It’s hard to feel yucky when you look down on fun toes! (I may have to lean forward a little more than usual to see my toes but i can still see them!) Hope everyone had a great Easter!
New grey washed out jeans (maternity) from H&M ($40!), oversized black blouse by hanni y that is a staple in my closet (I’ve had it for over a year). Oversized fuzzy grey w/ skulls scarf and of course my trusty black leather jacket both from Zara. Boots from Fiorentini & Baker.
All that happened here was a new pair of inexpensive maternity jeans from H&M giving new life to some staples in my wardrobe. FYI I’m at 27 weeks here. We didn’t take a side profile pic but trust me there’s a large bump there. That’s why i had the big fuzzy scarf and gloves on, because there’s no way my jacket zips up.
