Two of my favourite products that you really need to know about;
Sudocrem – this is a diaper cream that kicks all other diaper creams’ buts! I kid you not. I’ve been using it for years because what most people don’t know is that it’s amazing for so many other ailments other than diaper rash. More than anything I use it as a zit zapping cream – zinc is a natural acne-bacteria fighting substance, and it won’t dry out your skin while zapping your pimple. And now that i’m preggo this is my absolute favourite ‘tool’ in my bathroom, because you just never know when your hormones are going to kick into high gear and you’ll wake up with a break-out. And you know it’s safe for baby unlike many acne medicines. Further to that I use it on razor burn, insect bites, and most minor skin irritations. It’s not nearly as ‘sticky’ as most other diaper creams which makes it easy to apply and rinse off.
Sudocrem is also my favourite add-on for a baby shower gift because a lot of new moms don’t know about it. 250gm for no more than $14, it’s not exactly a bank breaker.
Now this is the single most-used gift I received this past Christmas. My sister put this in my stocking and at the time I was only 13 weeks pregnant and had no idea how much I’d use it in the weeks to come.
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks, I have used this every day from week 13 until now (24.5 weeks) and have already stocked up on a second bottle because I don’t want to run out! With the start of my third trimester only 9 days away I know all the stretching and growing I’ve been doing is about to be amped up and this lotion keeps my skin soft, supple, and comfortable. It battles the itch of the stretch, and so far no stretch marks. (I realize this may change in a very short time). But should they appear this lotion is also packed with Vitamin E so it will help with the healing of them and reduce scarring. Plus it smells delicious! My husband likes to talk to the baby through my belly and is always telling him/her how ‘great mommy’s belly smells!’. It puts a smile on everyone’s face. FYI it’s Hypoallergenic & Paraben Free, a 250gm bottle should run you less than $10.
I ordered a leather jacket from Zara but it came in so slim in the shoulders I didn’t think that would be conducive to life as a new mom. So I headed to Zara to try on other sizes and also found an alternative style that I think I’m going to exchange for.
Here’s what I ordered (in a better fitting size) – and yes I plan to wear this open over the belly this Spring, possibly layering a lightweight hooded sweatshirt underneath. And also in the fall again – with a baby carrier underneath 🙂
Today I’m wearing one of those extra long cool racerbacks underneath, with my favourite wunder unders – they are made of a textured looser knit fabric that is more comfortable around my belly than the regular luon. Both from lululemon. And also a lightweight wool cardigan from J Crew.
Here is the style that I think I prefer more. I love the covered studs.
I have to say I was a bit dissappointed that I couldn’t just exchange in the store – apparently if it’s the same style i could have but for a different style I can’t. So now i have to send the return back, wait for the refund, and then re-order. Much too complicated and time consuming Zara Canada!
This was one of those days where I had a million things to do and the day started off with prenatal yoga (at Toronto Yoga Mamas) and continued from there. So at the base of it all is my tried, tested, and true lululemon items. I found that early in my second trimester my wunder unders were no longer comfortable around my waist and ended up picking up the Skinny Will Pant. I love love love how as I’ve grown the high waist (which I folded under my belly early in the third trimester) now supports my lower belly as I’ve increased in size. I wear the waistband all the way up and have cut out the drawstring (it just adds a strange bulge which no pregnant belly benefits from). And my other go-to is just a basic tank, i thrive on the Cool Racerback (sidenote: I can’t see the Long version of these online but in stores they are often available in black and white in a longer version, these are my preferred length right now because you get a little extra bum coverage).
Layering is the key these days, it’s still cold here and my internal temp is all over the map. So today I tossed a chunky knit sweater from Zadig & Voltaire over top, and my go-to boots are always from Fiorentini & Baker. (They make everything better).
I promise the quality of pics will improve! I don’t have a full length mirror and rely on the hubs for the full length shots – we’re working on it…
I just want to point out again that I have on Zero ‘maternity’ clothing, and I’m just about 24 weeks along here. This took me from yoga to coffee, through errands, home for a nap :), and then dinner with my husband in a trendy restaurant.
